The Definitive Guide to Uber at Disney World 2023

Uber at Disney World

If you are looking to use Uber at Disney and need some details – you’ve come to the right place.  We will talk about using Uber around Disney, where you can use it, and how to set it up.

What is Uber?

For those of you that don’t know, Uber is an app that has turned the taxi experience into an electronic experience.  It is e-hailing if you will and is most of the time cheaper than a metered cab.  You can use Uber by signing up for an Uber account, downloading the app onto your phone, and pressing a few buttons to request a driver. Don’t worry – we will go step by step through the process.

What makes Uber different is that it is not metered, there’s a fare depending on the location that you can see before you request a ride. Everything is done on your mobile phone. Uber exists as an app that you download on your phone and set up an account with. Uber takes away almost all interaction with the driver, which can be awkward.

Is Uber available at Disney World?

Yes, Uber is available at Disney World! Guests can use the Uber app to request a ride to and from select locations at Walt Disney World Resort. In addition, Uber drivers can drop guests off at Disney Springs and the Transportation and Ticket Center.

To request a ride, simply open the Uber app and input your destination. Then, choose your preferred vehicle type and confirm your pickup location. Once you have placed your request, an Uber driver will be on their way to you! For more information about requesting an Uber ride at Disney World, please visit the official Uber website.

Let’s get more into it!

Why Should I Use Uber?

The reason I started using Uber is because I was constantly going down to Disney World with my partner while under the age of 25 and was not open to paying the underage fees rental companies love. I own with the Disney Vacation Club, (Disney’s timeshare), so was staying at Disney but also wanted to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and needed a way to get there.

That’s where Uber came in. It really is inexpensive and very convenient. Sometimes I’ll fall asleep after a long day after the dark while being driven home, and what do I care if there is traffic. I am no longer eligible for the underage rental car fee but I still hate driving and Uber makes more sense budget wise. You might align with the same reasons to use Uber as I do, you might be underage, not have a valid license, hate driving, or due to high rates – renting a car does not work.

Can I use Uber around Disney World?

Of course, you can! In fact, I suggest it over anything else.  Uber drivers can get into Disney theme parks, resorts, etc.  Uber will pick you up where you find the metered taxis.  As you know, I am set on helping you plan your Walt Disney World vacation on a budget and using Uber at Disney World will save you a ton of time, money, and effort.

It is now ready for your Disney Trip.

uberX is the budget version of Uber make sure you are always requesting uberX and nothing else.  These cars will fit 4-6 individuals.

There are four different levels to Uber:

UberX – The least expensive Uber option.   Usually, a sedan (like a Toyota Corolla), will seat up to 4 passengers.

UberXL – The bigger version of UberX, XL seats up to 6 passengers and is an SUV or Minivan.

UberSelect – Luxury services, AKA luxury vehicles like BMW or Mercedes.  Sits up to 4 passengers.

UberFamily – Either UberX or UberXL plus a car seat.

How do you use Uber?

When you want to use Uber, you open the app on your phone.  Make sure you set up your account using my directions above and get logged in before you head to Disney World.  It will save you frustration and time during your vacation.

Step 1 – Pickup Location

When you open the app, the pickup location will automatically be your current spot.

Step 2 – Enter Where To Address

Where are you going?  You can type in the name of the location or the address.  Uber connects to Google Maps so almost any place you can think of is pre-populated within the app.

Step 3 – Choose Type of Ride

Once you enter your Where To address, you will be given options such as UberX (regular level), UberXL (big car), UberPool (sharing the ride and car, which can take longer and only for two people.  Worth it if there is a big cost difference).  I covered the levels above.

Under the type of ride is the payment method.  This should have been saved under your account when you made your profile.  Easy Peasy

Step 4 – Confirm Pickup Spot

Once you hit confirm Uber, you will confirm your location for pickup.  It again defaults to your current location however, you can, and might need to change that depending on the situation.  For example, if you’re at Epcot walking towards the exit, you have to make sure the pickup location is changed to the actual exit.

To do this just move the screen around until the black pin is where you want to get picked up.

Step 5 – Confirm Pickup

Once you confirm your pickup spot, Uber will find your driver.  Within just a few moments, a car will officially have accepted the request to pick you up and you’ll see info on them on your screen.

You will be able to see the name of the person picking you up, a picture, the make and model of the car, the color, and the license plate number.  This helps you look for the right car.

Canceling

If you need to cancel the trip click on the driver and you will see an option to cancel.  You can also contact your Uber driver this way.

Uber Car Seats at Disney World

Uber is such an easy and convenient service but traveling with a baby is a bit harder. Child seat laws for ridesharing services are a little different than for standard drivers, but most companies like Uber require the use of a car seat for a baby passenger.

To travel in an Uber with a baby under 24 months old, you must bring your own child seat and you will be responsible for installing it.

Here are the qualifications for Uber Car Seat to provide one forward-facing car seat for a child:
(a) 2 years old AND
(b) 22 lbs. AND
(c) 31 inches.

A child is too big at 48 lbs. or 52 inches.

Whether at the airport or within Walt Disney World and in much of the surrounding area, put your destination into the app, scroll down until you see the car-type selection screen that includes options for “UberX Car Seat” and “UberXL Car Seat”.

Best Practices

  • The entire Uber experience is via a mobile app.
  • On average, Uber is 30% the cost of the Mears Taxi service at WDW.
  • Uber runs background checks on its drivers.  Furthermore, any overall rankings under 4.6 out of 5 stars are investigated.
  • Tipping is not part of “Uber.”  If you had a really great driver, make sure to give them a good ranking.
  • If you’re new to Uber, use promo codeVIRGINIAS515UE for a free ride up to $15.
  • Payment is automatic from the app, via the card you used to set up your account.
  • Surge pricing is when Uber increases pricing due to the time of day, the weather, or demand. If you see pricing that looks too high or abnormal, close the app and reopen it.  It’s a budget-friendly trick of mine.

Uber at Orlando’s International Airport (MCO)

Uber had a fair fight when it came to being able to pick up at MCO.  But it’s such a great service that a lot of people wanted it and so they fought for it.  All levels of Uber service can now pick up at Orlando International Airport and Sanford Airport.  This just happened in 2017 and it is really good news!

Can you Uber to Disney World from the airport?

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, you may be wondering if you can Uber from the airport. The answer is yes! You can easily request an Uber ride from the Orlando International Airport to any of the Disney World Resort hotels. Simply open the Uber app and enter your destination.

You’ll see a list of available Uber options, including UberX, UberXL, and UberSELECT. Choose the option that best suits your needs, and then request a ride. Once you’ve been matched with a driver, you’ll be on your way to the Magic Kingdom in no time!

Where does Uber drop you off at Disney?

When you’re visiting the happiest place on earth, the last thing you want to worry about is how you’re going to get around. With Uber, you can forget about renting a car or waiting in line for a taxi. Instead, you can request a ride with just a few taps on your smartphone. And the best part is that Uber will drop you off right at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom. So whether you’re headed to see Mickey Mouse or take a spin on The Haunted Mansion, Uber will help you get there without any hassle.

Are Ubers to Disney expensive?

One of the most common questions we get is whether Uber is a cheaper option than renting a car to get to Disney World. The answer to this question depends on a few factors, including how many people are in your party and how much time you plan to spend at the park.

For instance, if you’re visiting Disney World for just one day and you have four people in your group, it’s probably cheaper to take an Uber. However, if you’re staying for several days and plan to do some sightseeing outside of the park, renting a car will probably be your best bet. In general, Uber is more expensive than renting a car if you’re visiting Disney World for more than two or three days.

However, it’s important to factor in the cost of parking when making your decision. Parking at Disney World can be quite expensive, so if you plan to use Uber most of the time, it might actually save you money in the long run.
