Disney’s Refillable Mug

Disney’s Refillable Mug

Disney has this really cool refillable mug called the rapid refill mug.  You pay once and are able to refill this cup an unlimited amount of times during your stay. And it’s affordable!

How Does It Work?

This an RFID-enabled cup.  The chip is located at the bottom.  It’s similar to using a pass or card to get into an apartment or office building.  When you place the cup under the dispenser, the chip is read to release the soda.  This is all technical stuff and doesn’t matter much but I wanted you to get the gist of it.

Disney Refillable Mug Cost

Currently $21.99 for the length of your resort stay.

Two ways to get this mug:

  1. Comes included with the Disney Dining Plan.
  2. You purchase one separately.

How It Saves Money

Food is the easiest place to cut costs.  You can easily go from a 4 digit food budget to a 3 digit.  Drinks is part of that.  Buy yourself a small case of water and this refillable cup to have flexibility and all the drinks you need.

Do the math and let me know what you think!

Challenges

In some of the bigger resorts, such as Old Key West, you can easily be given a room that’s nowhere near any refill stations. A refillable cup, at these times, can actually be a waste of money.

Thankfully, this is easily remedied. When you check in, pay attention to your room’s location before purchasing one of these cups.

What Can Go In It?

  • Coke Products (Coke, Sprite, Fanta)
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Water
  • Some stations will have a type of juice like Hi-C or Powerade

The Options We Want (but don’t have)

  • Juice (OJ, Apple Juice)
  • Milk

Where To Refill

Where you can refill the drink differs based off resort. There are a few simple guidelines that keep locations predictable.

  • Quick Service Locations
  • Pool Bars
  • Food Courts

Personal Story

Usually, on vacation, I like to stick to water.  Why?  It’s inexpensive, readily available, healthy and keeps things simple.  I might splurge when eating out but when I go to Disney the only drink on my grocery order is water.

However…..

I recently took my grandparents to Disney and they definitely were not going to drink water.  There was absolutely no way. Our room was right next to a refill station so I went ahead and purchased 1 cup for them to share.

They loved everything about the cup.

  • How Disneyfied it was!
  • That they could take it home and use it after the trip.
  • The act of refilling it with any soda.
  • The crazy amount of Diet Coke they had access too.

Commonly Asked Questions

Disney's Refillable Mug 2017

Can I use the Disney refillable mug at the theme parks?

We all wish! While you can bring them with you to the park after filling them up at the resort, you can’t actually fill them up at any of the theme parks.

Can I use the Disney refillable mug at Disney Springs?

You cannot fill the mug at Disney Springs but you can bring it with you filled up. I do this sometimes myself.

Is there a different price for a 2 night visit vs a 7 night visit?

There used to be but now it’s just the flat cost.

Can you share this mug or is it one per person?

You can share it and should to save!

Can I fill the mug up at any resort or is it only the one I’m staying at?

You can fill it up at any Disney resort.

Can I refill back to back?

No, there is a 3 minutes wait between refills.

Can you buy refillable cups at Disney World Parks?

Unfortunately, no.  This refillable cup is technically a Disney resort refillable mug.  Meaning you can only purchase and use them at Disney resorts.

What are the Disney refillable mug colors?

Red, green, blue, purple and pink!

Is the Disney Refillable Mug 2018 design different than 2017?

There’s a long answer here.  Back in 2016, Disney removed the colored handle from the Disney refillable mugs.  So if you scroll up and look at the mug with the red lid, in 2016 it had a red handle too.  Until the handles were removed all together.

Today, the handles are back!  But all cups have white handles.

Refillable mugs are the way to go. My family and I went to DIsney World last month. The cost of a bottle of water was almost $5. Its astonishing what they charge but I guess they need to profit somehow.

Wow that’s really impressive the technology they have! Good idea to have them share one cup! lol

I was taught this by my cousin years ago. However, we’ve never used it. We always drink water, and learned quickly most everywhere that offers drinks will give you a cup of free water.

This is a great idea to buy one and share – food can be so expensive in the park but if your careful and plan for it it’s not that bad.

oh this refill cup idea is awesome. I’d be all for the hot coco’s and water. Though I’d have to get a separate one for my husband so he could have coffee!

I’ve heard of this, but I ended up not needing it. We would have mainly used this in the cafe/restaurant at our hotel for breakfast, when all we want is water and coffee. Plus, we were in a rush to get to the park, so it wasn’t a good time to fill up there.

I haven’t heard of this but it looks so interesting. We are going to Disney in the next year or so with our little one so we may need this!

This is serious savings! We have done this before and are so glad we have! Its easy to spend a lot in the parks so just doing this is definitely worth it!

I had no idea this was an option at Disney! I need to save this post for when we visit sometime soon!

I’m going to Disneyland in the spring and had no idea about this! I’ll definitely need this and buy it for whenever I visit!

That’s a great idea! I had no idea this was a “thing” (I haven’t been to Disney in a few years). Who knew that RFID was in everything?! The cost per refill is dirt cheap, especially when you drink a ton in the heat.

If we make it to disney with coming summer we will absolutely have to buy these! Not only are they great little gifts but save you so much $$!

This is a fantastic idea and definitely cost effective if you are staying a few days! plus you can take the cup as a little souvenir, it’s a shame that they don’t do juice in it though which is better for the younger ones.

WHOAAAAA. I know I’m a millenial and I shouldn’t be so wow-ed by this, but things like chip readers to release a drink seems pretty freakin’ cool to me. Hahahha 🙂

I remember the Disney Days when the refillable cups were Disney resort specific. Still have several…great souveniers! We usually only get one cup when we go. Mostly drink water but have the options to split a soda or coffee

It is great that the refillable cups can help cut down on costs. Who doesn’t want a cheaper holiday after all right?

This mug is so ideal! I love mugs that can hold hot drinks as well as cold drinks. All the pretty ones are usually just for cold drinks

SMART! It’s usually just the two of us when we go to Disney and my husband only drinks water so I don’t see us having much of a need for this but I am going to be sharing this with my sister. She lives in FL and with two little ones I’m sure she has a lot of Disney plans coming up!

We haven’t been to Disney but if we did, this seems like a great idea. I love my reusable cups here at home!

I’m the same way, too. I usually just prefer water to help cut down on costs, but I can see how it’s beneficial for others who prefer to drink soda and other drinks.

I am a water drinker. Honestly, though we aren’t in the market to be going to Disney anytime soon. I have a couple of years before the boys are old enough to enjoy it anyway.
