Disney’s Magical Express Review and Instructions
Also known as DME – is Disney’s complimentary motorcoach transportation from Orlando International Airport to Disney owned resorts. It is part of Disney’s transportation system.
Let me start with why I love and cherish DME. I would feel fully comfortable calling it my knight in shining armor or better yet my Dame in shining armor. I live in NJ and by the time I land in MCO, I want nothing more than to relax.
Are you curious about Disney specials? This is a Disney special. Better yet, if you are curious about how to go to Disney World for free – this is technically how. I loathe driving and DME means no rental car, no fees, no driving.
DME comes with “two” luggage services
The first one being that they will take charge of your luggage. This is an optional service and not one that I’ve taken advantage of myself, as I don’t think it’s a big deal to have my luggage with me and just roll it, but it is something that a lot of people use.
Basically, Disney will be in charge of your checked luggage from the moment you hand it over to airport personnel before your departure flight from home. You can then expect to receive your luggage within three hours of your arrival, the luggage will be delivered to your room and you don’t have to wait for it. That means you can enjoy anything you want to enjoy the day you get there without having to worry about your luggage. And this is where the convenience comes from.
If using the service you want to have a carry-on or a personal item that has your magic bands, credit cards, money, medication, and any other things you would need for the next couple of hours. If you go with this option make sure to book/request DME more than a month in advance because they will have to send you specialized yellow luggage tags.
Your other option is to just have your luggage with you at all times. When you get off your plane go to baggage claim, grab your bags, and walk over with your bags to the Disney Magical Express Welcome Center. Right before getting on the bus, the driver will take the baggage from you and place it in the cargo area under the bus.
When you get off at your resort he will then take it out for you. The neat thing is that even if you arrive at your resort and your room is not ready bellhop will hold your bags for you while you go and enjoy anything that you need to.
At which point, once you get back, you can then either visit the bellhop and pick up your bags or you can call and have them take them to your room. This option is available for last-minute DME bookings…
Both solutions are really easy, super convenient, and great. Which one you choose will depend on your itinerary, what’s going on with your vacation, and which you prefer.
I’ve seen both negative and positive reviews about DME, mostly positive. What I can say is that the majority of the negative reviews I have seen are because people had to either wait a long time to get on a bus or the commute from the airport to their actual resort took awhile. The reason that this can happen is that usually, a few resorts will share a bus.
I have never experienced an elongated wait, however, I do usually arrive very early in the morning so that could be why. If you were using DME just make sure to leave enough time 2-3 hours to get back to your resort before planning anything else such as an advanced dining reservation.
How To Book
To book DME you will need your flight information and resort confirmation number. If you are booking more than a month in advance you will receive something in the mail (US and Canada residents only), if there is not a month between the day you book DME and your check-in day you will not get anything in the mail but that isn’t a big deal. You will get emails from them.
The bus runs 24 hours and can be found on level 1 with the rental cars, B-side. Guests who are flying into Orlando International Airport from another country must follow the U.S. Customs and Border Protection process and claim their luggage after disembarking the plane. They can then proceed to Disney’s Magical Express Welcome Center
DME has plush, comfortable, themed seats with a video that plays on multiple screens as entertainment. Most of the motor coaches have bathrooms in the rear. It’s an exciting ride.
